The Armenian born, American raised colorist has always had a passion for beauty. Before becoming a hair colorist, he spent more than a decade traveling the world as an antiquities dealer, participating in art auctions and archeological digs throughout the Mediterranean. The untimely passing of his brother, a well known Westchester salon owner, Migirdich Demirjian, made Vasken switch careers to use his formal art training to incorporate into the beauty industry. “I just felt that it was my calling and I had to carry on his legacy”. He has done just that and more.
Vasken’s entire background had unwittingly prepared him for a career in color. His first hand knowledge of patination and oxidation – how chemicals and elements alter color over time, gave him an edge that most colorists don’t have. His years spent working with Antiquities taught him to look beyond the surface of objects to discover their true essence. His impeccable aesthetic pedigree combined with the highest European education and training had solidified him as a true artist and a master colorist. He studied in New York and London, where he became the first American to obtain the Colour Specialist Degree from L’Oreal. A Board certified Master Colorist and multiple award winner, Vasken Demirjian approaches each client as an artist approaching a canvas. His goal is to create a masterpiece each and every time – from corrective color to a mere retouch.
Through the years he has developed and perfected several color techniques including ‘Color Canvassing’, a process that creates a wonderful three-dimensional effect, ‘a rich mosaic of shades, like a marvelous kilim.’ Whatever the color situation, Vasken will attend personally to every single client, making certain each color is unique to the individual. Always the artist, he allows whatever time is needed to create a personalized experience and he expects the same from his clients. “Nothing great can be achieved in haste’, he says.
With his first boutique salon “Vasken Demirjian” at Trump in White Plains, Vasken will bring his artistic abilities and perform his magic at the highest level of hair color mastery. With his wonderful and most talented staff, Vasken intends to transform “a visit to the hair colorist” into a most memorable, relaxing aesthetic get-away.
