Regardless on how we all feel about the event on Van lake we have to agree that Akhtamar Island, landscape, Holy Cross church, the whole ceremony, all religious attributes are outstandingly beautiful, just look at this, how do you even describe with words all this beauty, OUR beauty?? I am in love with the very first picture!
The information on the amount of participants as always varies a big time, some Turkish news say it was 200-300 people, others claim 2000 Armenians participated in Liturgy. One thing they all agree with is almost all Armenians there were Turkish Armenians since all other Armenians rejected the “show” without a Cross on the top of the Church.

Today I have realised his name and surname are changed from English into Armenian writing! Our unique and absolutely beautiful alphabet!
I discovered Antoine a couple of months ago quite accidentally, I saw his picture as an avatar pic on someone’s profile. And my first thought was this is a model or a Hollywood actor, how come I missed him?!
)
He was born in Lebanon in 1970 and in 2004 moved to the USA.
Following his career I found out our Armenian singer is very patriotic and has performed in many countries with a great success.
Aside from Lebanon and United States the audience was lucky to enjoy his songs in Greece, Syria, France, Kuwait, Italy, England,Egypt, Cyprus, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates…
Please, search for his name on YouTube for the songs
And the best of luck to you, Անթուան, it’s nice to have another talanted, handsome patriotic Armenian among us!

And again our nation is divided. While some Armenians participated in Liturgy in Surb Khach Church on Akhtamar Island many more Armenians protested it attending Genocide Memorial in Tzitzernakaberd in Yerevan.
Armenian churches are being destroyed in today’s Turkey and most Armenians feel all what is happening in Lake Van is just a game from Turkish side to convince the world they are a “tolerant” country and Armenians should not become a “tool” in it. But most of all our nation was outraged at the Turkish decition not to install a Cross on the church (called Holy Cross!). That came as a suprise even to many Turks, during the poll conducted by Armenian News Agency they confessed they thought it was done deliberately by Turkish authorities to “wage a war” between Turkish and other Armenians.
Hopefully our nation will be smarter than to fall for such tricks, we cannot and should not be divided, we are one nation regardless where we live and what language we speak!!!
Istanbul Armenian dance group visited Liturgy yesterday and sang and danced after the ceremony saying for them to visit Van is like a dream. So don’t judge too harsh, don’t hate on other Armenians!
Pictures first time seen at Nemo991 from LJ with who I fully share interest in political and social issues

Most Armenians rejected Turkish invitation to participate in the liturgy in Surb Khach Church in occupied historical Armenian land of Akhtamar Island on Van lake. 90% of those Armenians who planned to go there cancelled their tickets disappointing a lot Turkish businessmen when Turkish authorities refused to put up Cross on dome of the church. And out of Istanbul Armenians only 1-2% visited the Island.
The church is called “Surb Khach” which means “Holy Cross”. Isn’t it ironic that Holy Cross Church doesn’t have Cross on its dome??
Some pictures from the event.

Each of these foreigners ended up in the streets of Yerevan as beggers but it is not really their tragedy, it is our, Armenian tragedy, look into their faces and you will see our indifference, do we still look pretty??
All these people have come to Armenia to call it a “Home”. Unfortunatelly due to different reasons it didn’t work out as they planned, they lost their jobs, familes, everything they had and appeared in the streets of Yerevan begging for money, food, clothes, got lots of health problems because of cold winters and absolute lack of help from Government and people around. This is a topic which we don’t like to know or discuss, isn’t it? We only want to know and show off “healthy and wealthy” part of Armenia which is understandable but not the right thing to do. Why is our Government silent about them, why it doesn’t help in a slightest, why as a nation, as a society we do not do much to push, to demand those in charge to take responsibility?! Where is our Diaspora? How are we going to change our life in Armenia for better if we are oblivious to such human lives’ tragedies? Wake up, Armenians!
Via Elena Shuvalova-Petrosyan who always raises up important for our society questions.
Serbian guy Vasil who used to live in Norway, worked as a doctor in Yerevan, now lost everything (family, job) and lives in the streets! He knows 14 languages! A Serbian official in the Embassy rejects his application for visa to Serbia saying now he is a citizen of Armenia and doesn’t belong to Serbia anymore! Unfortunately the guy drinks ;-(

I have written about our Gohar Avetisyan here. Let me add some pictures
So many beautiful contestants and she still won, well done!
Some people don’t feel comfortable with ladies’ bikini pictures or Nude Art. Being very much against “dirty” pictures which only humilate women’s dignity and honour I fully support exposing beauty of a woman should it be “internal” or “external”. “Beauty is in the eye of a beholder” they say but don’t forget your mind also should be beautiful to be able to capture beauty.
Having said that I myself “get” a heart attack when I see some so called “Nude Art” or “ladies” who put up their bikini pictures. Luckily very few Armenian girls are among such!

Yesterday in Yerevan, between Mashtots Avenue and Saryan street residents of neighboring buildings, Armenian Tree Project and the NGO “We are the owners of the city” organised a symbolic tree planting.
The planted tree symbolizes determination of resisting the Yerevan Municipality which allows buildings in the Park, and to prevent privatization of public spaces, as well as the concreting of green areas.
