Beautiful Armenian community in France. It is said to be the biggest in Europe. Many French Armenians are very patriotic and participate in all Armenian events. Also, many famous French of Armenian origin. But is that enough for all of us to keep our Armenianess outside of Armenia? Of course, no. We all know the answer, only in Armenia we can ensure our kids, our grandkids and future generations will not assimilate, like many have done today. Some Diaspora members are moving to Armenia now. Will we witness mass repatriation to historical Homeland Armenia? Sometimes I dream we all connect to each other not via internet but in real life in our beloved Armenia where we trully belong.

If I am not mistaken pictures are via Urartur

3 more Armenian scientists with big contribution ;-)

Gurgen Askaryan

Gurgen Askaryan was an outstanding physicist-theoretician, famous for his discovery of the self-focusing of light, pioneering studies of light-matter interactions, and the discovery and investigation of the interaction of high-energy particles with condensed matter. (Askaryan effect).

Interesting fact from his life include his third year of education, when G. Askaryan proposed a new method of registration of fast charged particles. G. Askaryan discussed this proposal with some of his teachers and fellow stu-dents. No one objected. However, no one supported him. Several years later, in 1952, the same idea was set forth independently by an American physicist Donald Arthur Glazer, who put the idea into practice and received a Nobel Prize in 1960.
This event gave rise to Askaryan’s deep concern because of being shaken by the fact that Nobel Prize was so near and, so to say, he let it slip.

But perhaps one of the most brilliant of Askaryan’s discoveries was the phenomenon of light which he called self-focusing. This discovery opened new prospects in non-linear optics and a new chapter in non-linear electrodynamics.

“The Armenians are killing me with their hair and especially the fierce cateye liner! LOVE! I am part Armenian, in fact”

She is as  sophisticated  as always,  doesn’t seem to grow old also.

From all the pictures of her I have seen so far, she is always very sophisticated, would love though to know if she is like that in real life as well, not  just in front of camera.

I am afraid people in Yerevan  will  soon be very cautious in the streets because of the guy with photo camera- yaxonto. Not that this girl minds her photo being taken by a stranger ;-) ) I guess he has a special smile to gain the trust ;-)

I want to draw special attention to the fact that here our readers will find information on many Armenian scientists whose contribution to the world is extremely big and important while not very well presented.

Three more scientists. Search for “Armenian scientists” on this website for others ;-)
Alexander Kemurdzhian

Alexander Kemurdzhian is the founder of the space transport engineering, a pioneering scientist in the space flight program of the Soviet Union, designer of the first rovers to explore another world, the Soviet Lunokhod rovers.

Kemurdjian was not only responsible for the first Moon rovers, but also created the first Mars rover as well.

He led a team that introduced the virtues of a Mars rover to the world in the Society’s international testing program in the late 1980s. His work has had extraordinary influence on robotic designs in the USA and Europe as well as in Russia. He was “profoundly influential in putting a human face on the concept of Soviet-American cooperation,” writes Friedman. “I was always struck by this man — a Soviet military secret … — who turned out to be a warm, gracious colleague and friend to so many of us.”

His works were the subject of the recent documentary film “Tank on the Moon” by French film maker Jean Afanassieff. The documentary premiered in the United States on the Science Channel on February 12, 2008.
