Армения у многих поэтов называлась “Араратской страной” или “Страной Наири”. B известном стихотворении “Последний ли я поэт?” Ваан Терьян (1885-1920) называет Армению “Страной Наири” (пер. В. Брюсов).
Опять Терьян: “Мне наирянка улыбнулась тонкостанная” (перевод К. Бальмонта, ).
Во время встечи советских писателей в 1932 г. Горький назвал Чаренца “Страной Наири” (т.к. на русском издавалось одноименное произведение).
«Въ 1828 г. внесена въ титулъ Армянская область, Урарту Ассирійскихъ лѣтописей, которая по новѣйшимъ открытіямъ, русскими учеными совершоннымъ, играла оченъ важную роль въ древнѣйшей исторіи Востока и въ судьбахъ народа Божія: отвлекая силы ассиріянъ на сѣверѣ, она (Урарту—Арменія) замедляла паденіе царства Израильскаго, a вступая въ союзъ съ Вавилономъ, ускорила паденіе царства Іудейскаго и приблизила явленіе Царства Божія, Царства мира, Царства Христова. Санъ-Стефанскій договоръ дѣлалъ Царя Русскаго обладателемъ верхней долины Евфрата и, можетъ-быть, обладаніе этими мѣстами предупредило бы кровопролитіе въ Турецкой Арменіи, если бы С.-Стефанскій договоръ не былъ замѣненъ Берлинскимъ, поставившимъ Арменію и внѣ значенія и внѣ мира т.-е., закрывъ ее для изслѣдованія и предавъ ее разоренію и кровопролитію.». «Еще объ историческомъ значеніи царскаго титула» / „Русский Архив”, 1895, № 7, стр. 396—398.
По мнению антрополога Ф.В. Лушана, армяне потомки древнейшей туземной расы Малой Азии, отстоящий свой тип от всех влияний на него семитов, греков и т.д.. (F. V. Luschan. Die Tachtadschy und andere Ueberreste der alten Bevölkerung Lykiens, въ „Archiv für Anthropologie”. XIX, 1890).

Churches of Northern Armenia

And again Zonic-x uploaded fascinating pictures of nature, landscapes and ancient Armenian churches, this time it is Northern Armenia, Tavush region. I will make 3 different posts about 3 churches they visited in one go. I always feel sorry putting under the “cut” her mesmerising photos, they are so beautiful that I just want to have all them on the front page.
If I am in complete awe with the pictures of nature, churches, I can’t even imagine what this group of Armenian travellers felt actually being there.
